..this is a hotel you would book. I stayed here for three nights
It is a classical decorated hotel with some really nice corners to make this big hotel feel less unperonsal.
Golf is the main attraction. Ranked in the top 30 golf courses in Europe, Penha Longa Resort has 27 hole court designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones Jr..
The Penha Longa Resort is at the heart of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park offering you many options for outdoor activities such as Go Kart, hiking, jeep tours, surfing, tennis etc
During summer they have beach service in the near by town of Estoril.
The weather was bad and it usually is quite rainy for its microclimate and being located at 300 m above sea level it is often foggy.
If you need to stay connect to the Internet while travelling be aware that this hotel has issues, big issues. You need a code to login and all this makes you frustrated.
So if you need to get work done, be connected to the Internet this hotel is a big no.
Here is the official video of the hotel showing also the images of Sintra: Play
It is managed by Ritz Carlton but due to legal issue they cannot use the name Ritz in Portugal. All the amenities in the room are as any Ritz Carlton. But they forget to fill up shampoo is it is finished…as double check before you hit the shower.
It is 5 min from then beautiful small town of Sintra. Which i warmly recommend to visits and maybe enjoy a dinner in one of the local restaurants.
Here is a nice video about Portugal.
The room I stayed in was very spacious and had a small balcony with a table and two chairs facing the valley where the old convent is which is used for functions and meetings.
Some strange things happened. First of all the I had an e-key which also turns the lights on as in most hotels today but why does housekeeping any way come knocking on your door every hour. Can’t they see the key is inserted?
Down service is provided but the do not clean the bathroom only then main room…odd.
Lobby – Design – Common areas
The common areas are big and spacious. The hotel develops in length not hight so some walking is needed to get to the breakfast room and lobby if you end up in one distant wing of the building. On the way though nice areas are decorated so it is quite entertaining.
If you get tiered of the classical design head down to the club house called Arola. Here it seems to be in another hotel. Food is Portuguese with fusion influences. Amazing view over the golf court. Service is a bit slow but if you are on vacationing is not so important.
Breakfast is good. Plenty to choose between and also a children’s dedicated breakfast corner.
The kids club is big and well organised……
If you like you omelette the morning get ready to wait, for the chef it took around 15 min to get mine done.
Champagne is available if you like bubbles in the morning like i do 😉
Spa & Gym
Big gym and 1 nice indoor pool and 2 outdoor pools, one is heated
-Amazing meeting venue in the old convent
-Nice outdoor pools.
-Bad wi-fi in the rooms and meeting space.
Overall vote: 6 out of 10
